Stop 1: The Big Apple (NYC)

NYC is always worth a visit. The city pulses with energy and offers an endless array of excitement, activities, and food options. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every trip I’ve taken there—even the spontaneous ones without any planning. Simply walking the streets or taking a stroll through Central Park recharges me with the city’s unique and vibrant energy.

Driving from Boston becomes a joy when you choose to drive on the Merritt Parkway instead of I-91/I-95. Starting at Hartfort, CT, the Merritt Parkway (Route 15) is a scenic highway that’s limited to personal vehicles (no trucks allowed). That allows for the highway to be fairly narrow with many charming and low bridges.

With just 2 lanes each side and lush nature lining both sides, the drive feels calm. The median is often filled with trees and shrubs, enhancing the scenic atmosphere. Barring accidents, traffic is generally smooth. Despite the relatively low speed limit of 55mph, drivers cruise at about 65mph, making for a largely stress-free experience.

The longest delays on a Boston-NYC drive typicallh happen when leaving Boston or entering NYC, possibly adding an hour on each side.

1st leg of the road trip (including initial charge to 100%)

Despite NYC’s reputation as a “concrete jungle,” I’ve rarely had issues traveling there by car. Like many times before, I managed to find street parking easily—most of it even free! Once a good parking spot is secured (this time, right in front of the hotel), getting around Manhattan is a breeze, either on foot or by subway.

Of course, traveling during weekdays would be a different experience with most roads not allowing parking during the day.

Amongst the various culinary options, my favorite restaurant of this trip is Acadia, serving Israeli cuisine, including for brunch. The ‘Israeli Experience’ was totally worth the $29 with rich flavors and healthy nutrition. The cucumber-mint lemonade offered refreshment, and a latte macchiato was expertly made. Considering the comforting interior design and the friendly service, the experience get’s a 9.5/10. (I went back to Acadia on the second morning again!)
