The drive from Santa Fe to Pagosa Springs has been the most scenic part of the trip so far. It began with a stretch through the high desert of northern New Mexico, where colorful cliffs in shades of yellow, cream, and amber stood out against the open landscape. The terrain felt expansive and peaceful.

Once I crossed into Colorado, the scenery changed noticeably. The Rocky Mountains came into view, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding desert. I found myself stopping often to take in the views—the wide, open road made it easy to do so.

The low speed limit on these mostly empty roads felt like an invitation to slow down and enjoy the landscape. It also made it easier to keep an eye out for wildlife. At one point, a deer wandered into the road just as I was approaching. Fortunately, I was able to stop in time.

Pagosa Springs is a small, welcoming town set in the mountains, with a river running through the center.
